"I believe that textile art should be held in the same high regard as fine art. Therefore, I sign all of my art by embroidering my artist signature, HIX, along with the year it was made.”
Anna Hicks is a sustainable fashion & textile artist from Wellington, New Zealand, who works with reclaimed materials and traditional handcraft techniques to create a variety of wearable art and textile art.
A graduate of Massey University with a BDes in Fashion & Entrepreneurship, Anna spends her time creating, exhibiting, teaching and speaking about her work to promote sustainability and the health benefits of handcrafts.
She believes that we can all do more to help make our planet more sustainable and enjoys nothing more than the challenge of working with the materials that you’ve got. Turning a bag of waste, thought of as trash, into something beautiful and thought-provoking to encourage viewers to think differently about sustainability. Anna is also passionate about promoting the health benefits of handcrafts and how you too can use working with your hands as a positive influence in your life. A stitch a day keeps the doctor away!
Her philosophy in life is that "any mistakes are just proof it was handmade"
Works by day at Nancy's Stitch Studio in Wellington, managing the store and teaching classes.
